In just two short days the honeymoon was over, and Norman found himself worrying about the state of his house. Rebecca had only been inside twice, and both of those times she’d seen only a limited area. Now that she was to see the entire thing he was extremely nervous about her reaction. Only his bedroom, Dylan’s room, and the sitting room were furnished; the rest of it he liked to think of as a blank canvas waiting for the right artist to give it life. He also had another surprise for her, and he was especially eager to see her face light up when she saw it.

“Well, here we are,” he said with a great deal of apprehension when they got to the driveway. Instead of just parking in the front as he usually did he drove down the circle drive to the garage on the side of the house.

From the side perspective it was easy to see that the house was not just a house. It was at least five times larger than it seemed from the modest front perspective. The garage alone was larger than the average home.

Rebecca’s eyes widened in surprise, but she didn’t ask how he could afford such a house. Maybe lieutenant colonels got paid more than she’d previously thought.

“I’ve got to warn you… It’s not furnished, so we’re going to have to do some shopping if I have time before I leave,” Norman said.

“Okay,” Rebecca said.

“So, I’ll give you the grand tour now that it’s your home too,” he said.

‘The tour’ began with the laundry room which was almost the size of Rebecca’s old bedroom. Next they moved on to a kitchen that looked like it could have graced the cover of an architectural magazine. There were five bedrooms, each of them a small suite with a walk in closet and its own bathroom. One of them was the one Norman used.

“This one,” he said as they came to a set of double doors, “is the master bedroom. I decided not to use it because it’s too big for just me, but now that we’ll be sharing you’ll probably prefer to use this one.”

When the doors opened Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat and she fell instantly in love with the room. It had a fireplace in the corner of a cozy little sitting area and lovely molding throughout, but the feature that caught Rebecca’s eye was the pair of huge bay windows that faced west, overlooking the backyard and the wooded area just down the hill. The view was spectacular.

“That looks so pretty,” she said as she looked down the steep hill at the woods beyond the house.

“This place sits on ten acres…it’s mostly woods though,” he put his arms around her from behind and kissed her neck. “So, what do you think?”

“It’s a great house,” she replied politely.

“We’re not done yet. There’s more.”

In the next few minutes He showed her the dining room, his small sitting room again, the great room which
